Become a volunteer victims' advocate

The Reno Police Department’s Victim Services Unit HAS partnered with Sparks Police and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to recruit and train Volunteer Victim Advocates to provide after-hours advocacy to victims.  These agencies are working together to maximize resources and help victims in Northern Nevada. 

Volunteer victim advocates provide crisis intervention, and coordinate emergency and other support services to victims of intimate partner violence who have experienced domestic violence, stalking, protection order violations, and other issues in Reno, Sparks and Washoe County.

The initial 40 hour training program is comprised of class sessions scheduled on weeknights and weekends.  Attendance at all training dates is required.  Applicants must be 18 years or older, be able to pass a background investigation and commit to a minimum one-year term of service.

Applications are available at our website, www.reno.gov under Police and the Victim Services tab or by calling 657-4519.  Applications must be returned to the Victims Services Unit by December 16, 2011.
