OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. — The body of a man was recovered in the Truckee River near Lake Tahoe Saturday morning.
According to an email from Placer County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jeffrey Ausnow, emergency crews retrieved the body of 52-year-old Eric Klaussen of Olympic Valley.
“At 11:15 a.m. two visitors to the Tahoe Basin were on the bike path near River Ranch when they observed a body in the water of the Truckee River,” Ausnow said.
After being notified by dispatch, Ausnow said North Tahoe Fire Department rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced Klaussen deceased.
Authorities say the official cause of death is being investigated.
Klaussen was last seen by family members on Saturday afternoon in the Squaw Valley USA area, Ausnow said. The body had no visible signs of trauma, and there is no evidence of foul play, he said.
“The cause of death will not be known until a forensic autopsy can be performed later in the week,” Ausnow said.
