RENO -- Reno Fire Department investigators advise yesterday’s fire in Sun Valley was caused by sparks from overhead electric power lines in high winds igniting dry grass.
On Monday, just before 4:00 p.m., Reno firefighters responded to a report of fire in the area of Fourth Avenue and Flora Way in Sun Valley. The fire burned less than an acre, destroyed two homes, caused damaged to another home, and burned three out-buildings and two carports.
In addition to the Reno Fire Department, Sierra Fire Protection District, Sparks Fire Department, and the Bureau of Land Management responded to keep the fire from spreading further. REMSA crews treated one firefighter for smoke inhalation and provided oxygen to a resident who needed it after electricity was turned off to the person's home. Washoe County Sheriff deputies worked to protect residents in the immediate area of the fire and kept others away from the scene.
The cause of Sunday’s fire on Chocolate Drive in Sun Valley remains under investigation.
