Free Spay/Neuter for Cats in different areas of Reno and surroundings

To reduce the number of kittens born this summer, Nevada Humane Society is offering free cat spays and neuters for a limited time for individuals who need financial assistance.

“If you live in East Reno, Lemon Valley, Golden Valley, Stead or Sun Valley in zip codes 89502, 89506 or 89433 you are eligible to get your cat spayed or neutered free of charge at Nevada Humane Society for a limited time,” said Nevada Humane Society Executive Director, Bonney Brown. “This is so important as there are already so many kittens in need of homes and getting your cat fixed is also beneficial to your pet’s long-term health.

For a limited time, free cat spays/neuters are available to residents of these zip codes:

  • 89502 (East Reno)
  • 89506 (Lemon Valley, Golden Valley, Stead)
  • 89433 (Sun Valley)

Residents are invited to make an appointment at the Nevada Humane Society Clinic by calling 775-856-2000 ext. 312. The spay/neuter surgery is free of charge which is a tremendous savings since these services would normally cost over $200. Vaccines (Rabies and FVRCP) are also available for those cats being spayed/neutered for a minimal donation of $10 per cat. A current photo ID showing one of the above zip codes as primary residence is required at the time of the appointment.

Appointments for these free services are limited and will be given on a first-come basis. Transportation assistance, for those who are unable to drive their cats to the clinic, will be provided as needed.

Nevada Humane Society wishes to thank the Jack and Jane Becker Foundation for their support which has made these free services possible.

Residents of other areas in need of spay/neuter assistance for cats or anyone needing dog spay/neuter assistance may call 775-856-2000 ext. 333. There are other low-cost options available.

Benefits of Spaying and Neutering

  • Reduces the incidence of health problems that can be difficult or expensive to treat.
  • Makes pets better, more affectionate companions.
  • Makes pets less likely to roam the neighborhood, run away, or get into a fight.
  • Prevents the birth of more animals (with hundreds of lost and homeless cats entering the shelters, this is particularly important).

Spay/Neuter Facts

  • Cats can be spayed or neutered when they are approximately nine weeks of age or as soon as they weigh two pounds.
  • Intact animals are more likely to exhibit behavior problems, end up in animal shelters, and be euthanized than animals who have been spayed or neutered.
