“Due to the very dry winter we experienced, the conditions in Elko County and throughout northeastern Nevada are extremely dry and more susceptible to fires than recent years,” said Dylan Rader, Acting Fire Management Officer for Elko Interagency Fire.
The Nevada Division of Forestry in conjunction with the northeast area and the Eureka County Fire Protection Districts closed all controlled burning as of May 23. This includes yard trimmings, limbs and brush piles in the unincorporated areas of Elko and Eureka counties.
“The Nevada Division of Forestry will be monitoring conditions and further restrictions may be implemented during the summer months throughout the county,” said Tim Woolever, Fire Management Officer, Nevada Division of Forestry, Elko. “New permit numbers will be required when the fall moisture returns.”
