Occupy Reno protester arrested

RENO -- The lone remaining Occupy Reno protester has been arrested after police said he refused to leave the protest camp.

39-year-old Edward Gill stayed behind in his tent after the three-month permit for Occupy Reno to use Moana Park as a campsite expired Wednesday.

Police went to the park Thursday night at around 7 p.m. to remind Gill and several others that the permit had expired, Lt. Robert Larson said.

The others picked up their chairs and tables and left, but Gill remained, Larson said.

Police returned at 9:30 p.m. and Gill was still there and refused an offer to stay at the homeless shelter, Larson said. Gill then refused to sign a citation and voluntary got out of the tent and was arrested on suspicion of being in the park after hours.

Larson says Gill refused an offer to stay at a local homeless shelter and refused to sign a citation. He was then arrested on suspicion of being in the park after hours.

As of Friday morning, Gill remained in the Washoe County jail.
