The Reno Bike Project to give out free bikes to kids in need

In the spirit of giving back to the community the Reno Bike Project (RBP) has partnered with the Children’s Cabinet to give free bikes to children in need.

This fall, community members have generously donated many kids’ bikes to RBP. To get ready for the Free Wheels for the Kids event on Dec. 18, RBP will host two kids’ bike repair parties at the shop on 541 E. Fourth Street on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 17.

In 2010 they gave away 100 free bikes during the event and look forward to exceeding that number this year. “By partnering with the Children’s Cabinet we are helping to support the best of the best causes,” said Jeff Mitchell, RBP Programs Director.

About the Reno Bike Project

The Reno Bike Project is a non-profit community bicycle shop and advocacy group committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community in the Truckee Meadows. Since 2006, the bike project has worked through advocacy, education and cooperation to increase enthusiasm about bicycling as a positive lifestyle and transportation alternative. The organization is built around the belief that the bicycle is the world’s greatest, most utilized mode of transportation and that every individual, regardless of age, gender, race, or class has a right to afford, maintain, and enjoy one.
