RENO, NV -- The City of Reno’s holiday tree is currently being installed on the City Plaza.  City of Reno officials will flick the switch on Reno’s holiday tree on the evening of Tuesday, November 20. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. on the City Plaza.

This is a great festivity for the family, signaling the official beginning of the holiday season. The public is invited to enjoy this holiday tradition featuring carolers, ice skating, and a community celebration.

Following the tree lighting, a skating exhibition by the Tahoe Snowflakes will take place on the Rink on the River and then the Rink will open for the public. Skaters can receive a free skate rental by donating a new hat, mittens, or scarf to the Salvation Army.  Admission fees for the rink range from $5.50 to $7.50 per person.

The City Plaza and Ice Rink are located at the corner of First and Virginia Streets in Downtown Reno along the Truckee River.  The 30 foot Blue Spruce was donated by Reno resident Mary Bride.  A detailed schedule of skating times and a list of admission fees can be found at www.reno.gov
