RENO, NV -- The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin removing any leftover political signs starting tomorrow. The state law requires any political signs posted on private property within 660 feet of state roads to be removed within 30 days of the general election. And tomorrow marks that day.

District engineer for N-DOT, Thor Dyson, says their focus is on removing political signs that are within the state road right of way.  “You know it’s a safety issue, a littering thing, most candidates are pretty good, they really are, most candidates are good and they pick up their political signs,” Dyson said.  “Whether they were placed there or blown on to, by the weather, were blown or washed up on state right away, then we’ll take them down,” Dyson said.

Dyson says for the most part, candidates follow the law.  “If they're not for some reason compliant then we take the sign down and bring to our yard here for them to pick up. They have 30 days to pick them up,” Dyson said.

Dyson also wants to remind anyone involved in future elections that political signs are never allowed on state road right of way.
