RENO --  Washoe County and all regional partners in the Truckee Meadows area are advising that the region is on flood alert, and are working together to prepare for possible flooding over the weekend.

“The National Weather Service models show if you are a resident or a business owner in low-lying areas, you should take all prudent measures to help protect your property,” said Washoe County Emergency Manager Aaron Kenneston. “This is a textbook Pineapple Express series of storms, and the heaviest moisture is expected late Saturday and into Sunday.”

Residents can utilize several flood prevention tips:

• Keep driveway culvert pipe ends free of debris and weeds
• Keep road side ditches adjacent to property clear of debris
• Keep curb and gutter drop inlets and grates free of debris (leaves, weeds, trash, etc.) if located near your home
• Never obstruct flow of road side ditches or culverts with landscaping or any other materials
• Never obstruct drainage easements with fences or out buildings
• Notify the Washoe County Roads Division if a culvert pipe is plugged or damaged
