SPARKS -- A young man was killed in the latest of a long string of vehicle versus pedestrian accidents occurring in the Reno-Sparks area.
Last night at around midnight, the Sparks Police Department received a call indicating that there was person that had been struck by a car on McCarran west of Probasco. When units arrived they found a 26 year old male in the number 2 travel lane. The male was declared deceased on the scene.
The driver who struck the pedestrian was still on scene and cooperative throughout the investigation. Initial investigation reveals the pedestrian was partially in the roadway when he was struck. That portion of the road is very dark and restricted for pedestrian traffic.
Police do not suspect the driver to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The pedestrian was identified as Randall William Woods. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Woods is the son of Billy Woods, co-founder of the Loving Hearts Club. The Loving Hearts Club helps the local homeless by providing them with food and clothing.
If anyone saw the accident, they are encouraged to contact Sgt. Walsh at 353-2241 ext. 503.
