Free car fixes available to the public

A free fix for your car could be a quick internet search away.

A technical service bulletin lets you know about a defect in your car and how you or a mechanic can fix it.

But these bulletins are rarely published, until now.

A law signed by President Obama on Friday will require the U.S. Transportation Department post all TSB's online.

Car safety groups say this will help consumers learn about car repairs they may not otherwise know about.

"This is clearly going to save consumers hundred of millions of dollars overtime", says Clarence Ditlow from the Center for Auto Safety.

TSB's will be available in full and plain English. You'll also be able to do a simple search on your particular car to see all TSB's ever issued.
