BLOG: New day, unfortunately same story from Assembly Republicans

By Brendan Summers

CARSON CITY -- Assembly Republicans today proposed the same tired and typical measures that they introduce every session.  At a press conference earlier this morning, Assembly Republicans proposed legislation that solely attacks workers and does nothing to adequately fund education or create jobs.

“I remain committed to working with every person in this building who has an idea on how to fund education in our state today, but am disappointed to see that Republicans are retreading the same partisan attacks they’ve lobbed in previous legislative sessions,” said Assembly Majority Leader William Horne.

Horne continued, “It seems the only people in this building who think that we don’t have to do anything today for education in this state sit on the Republican side of the Assembly aisle. It’s not difficult, it’s just math that in order to lower class sizes, and put our children on the path to success with full day kindergarten, we need to think outside of the box on responsible ways to raise revenue in this state to fund vital services.  Continuing to attack workers and families will get us nowhere.”

Assembly Democrats remain committed to working together on ways to build a better Nevada and move our state forward. They will not, however, stand on the sidelines when Republicans adopt a run out the clock legislative strategy this session by rehashing the same debates that further entrench the status quo.  Useless Republican obstructionism and political roadblocks have no place in this legislative session.
