Plane Crash at Reno Air Races-At least 3 Dead

8:00PM Press Conference Held

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but an official with the event said there were indications that mechanical problems were at play.

Over 50 being treated at local hospitals. Hospitals are looking for blood donations, go to United Blood Donations.

People are asked to call 211 for victim information.

Governor Sandoval praises the Medical personnel for their quick response and hard work. He describes the site as "horrific".

The location has been declared an NTSB accident site and they are taking over the investigation.

Memorial to be held for the deceased pilot, Jimmy Leeward, tomorrow at his hangar.

6:21PM 2 Spectators confirmed dead by Renown hospital.

6:08PM The deceased pilot has been confirmed as being 74-year-old Jimmy Leeward of Ocala, Fla., a veteran airman and stunt pilot who named his P-51 Mustang fighter plane the “Galloping Ghost,”.

5:48PM Witnesses describing the crash as a horrific scene, with multiple fatalities and body parts strewn across the tarmac at Reno-Stead Airport.

5:07PM A Source says at least 2. Reno Fire Marshall has reported at approximately 30 serious injuries.

5:03PM A mustang P-51 crashed into or near the stands at the National Championship air races in stead. Witness at the scene say the plane crashed near or into the boxes during the Unlimited heat, but there was no fire. The pilot was killed, but no word on injuries on the ground. The airport is being evacuated, and there is word that this may end the show for the weekend.

4:50PM Plane was a B-51 Mustang

A spokesman for Reno-Stead Airport, confirms there has been a crash at the Reno National Championship Air Races. No additional details are available at this time.
