Elder man in critical condition after being struck by vehicle

RENO -- The unfortunate trend of vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents continues with a 63-year-old man being the latest last night near downtown.

On Wednesday, at around 11:00 p.m, Officers from the Reno Police Department responded to South Virginia Street near Crummer Lane on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.  The vehicle was traveling S/B on South Virginia when it struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian was transported to Renown Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 64-year-old woman, was not injured. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The Reno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating the accident.  Anyone with information in regards to this case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department Traffic Division at 334-2141 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
