SPARKS -- The slick roads could be to blame for the hit-and-run traffic accident that took the life of a pedestrian Thursday evening.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m., when the pedestrian was hit and killed on Oddie Blvd at Mall Dr.  The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Oddie from the south side to the north side in a diagonal fashion and against the green light.  The pedestrian had made it across the eastbound lanes and had just started to cross the westbound lanes and was in the #1 lane when he was struck by a white 2003 Ford SUV.  The vehicle did not stop at the scene of the accident and was seen turning north on Sutro by a witness.

The victim, whose identity will not be released until family can be notified, was transported to Renown where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the SUV later identified himself and has been interviewed by Sparks Police.  Police are continuing to investigate the accident, and at this time no charges have been filed.
