RENO -- On Saturday emergency personnel from REMSA, and the Reno Police and Fire Departments responded to North McCarran Blvd. and Northtowne Lane reference an injury accident. A male moped rider was transported to Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the moped had been travelling westbound in the bike lane of McCarran. A silver or gray mid-size SUV (possibly a Chevrolet Trailblazer) overtook and struck the moped. The rider and cycle remained attached to the SUV for several hundred feet before separating. The SUV drove away westbound towards US395. The driver of the SUV made no attempt to stop and render air or notify authorities.

Yesterday, the moped driver died as a result of this injuries. His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
