Police investigate fatal accident on W. 7th street

RENO -- A woman was pronounced dead in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident last night in west Reno.

Yesterday at around 5:50 pm, Emergency Personnel responded to West 7th Street between McCarran Boulevard and Sierra Highlands Drive for a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic accident. The female pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel and was not transported. Reno Police Officers immediately secured the scene for the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) response.

It appears that the pedestrian was crossing 7th Street while wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk. Two vehicles appear to be involved in this accident and both drivers are cooperating with the investigation. It is unknown if alcohol is a factor in this accident but does not appear to be at this time.

West 7th Street was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic while the MAIT team conducted their investigation.

The Reno Police Department would like to remind pedestrians to use marked crosswalks whenever possible and wear light colored clothing. Drivers are reminded to use extra caution during hours of darkness especially in inclement weather.
