SPARKS -- A police officer is recovering from injuries sustained yesterday when his cop car was struck while he was trying to arrive to a crime scene.
Yesterday afternoon at around 4, a Sparks police officer was responding with lights and siren activated to assist another officer who had a robbery suspect at gun-point. While traveling west bound on Glendale, through the intersection of McCarran, a 1992 Honda traveling south bound, driven by a Sparks resident, did not see the emergency vehicle or note that all other traffic had stopped, and struck the passenger door of the officers vehicle.
The driver of the Honda was not injured in the collision. The police officer complained of neck and back pain and was transported to Renown for treatment.
Due to a Sparks officer being involved in the accident the Nevada Highway Patrol conducted the investigation and the Washoe County Sheriff's Department sent deputies to assist with traffic control.
The intersection was blocked for approximately 45 minutes until the vehicles could be towed from the scene.
