Aces walk-off with 11-10 victory

RENO -- In his first-career Triple-A start, newly-acquired Tyler Bortnick raced home for the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning Thursday night, lifting the Reno Aces to an 11-10 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Aces Ballpark.

After the Aces relinquished a three-run ninth-inning lead, the game held at a 10-10 tie in the bottom of the 11th. Bortnick was hit by a pitch to lead-off the frame, then advanced all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by Konrad Schmidt. After an intentional walk to Adam Eaton, Sky Sox reliever Coty Woods unleashed a wild pitch, chasing home Bortnick with the walk-off game-winner.

First-place Reno now has won each of the first three games in this four-game set against second-place Colorado Springs, increasing its division lead to 8.5 games over the Sky Sox. Thursday’s victory sealed the club’s seventh-straight series win at Aces Ballpark.

Matt Gorgen (1-1) earned the win out of the Aces bullpen, working two scoreless frames for his first-career Triple-A victory.  Starter Patrick Corbin took a no decision, despite striking out a career-high 11 batters. The Aces left-hander punched-out the first five batters he faced, and the first eight outs of the game were retired via the strikeout.

Woods (1-1) took the loss for the Sky Sox.

At the plate for Reno, A.J. Pollock led the way with five hits and two runs scored. Brent Clevlen hit a three-run homer in the first, and Bortnick hit a two-run shot in the sixth—the first of his Triple-A career. Josh Bell added three hits and three RBIs for Reno.

The Aces go for the sweep Friday night at Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (5-2, 5.48 ERA) gets the ball for Reno, while Colorado Springs will counter with RHP Guillermo Moscoso (6-5, 6.07 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it’ll be another Saint Mary’s Fireworks Friday presented by KRNV News 4.
