Aces walk-off with 8-7 win over Fresno

RENO -- Reno sent the game to extra innings in the ninth and won it in the 10th on an RBI single by Tyler Bortnick Saturday night, as the Aces inched closer to the postseason with an 8-7 victory over Fresno at Aces Ballpark.

Reno needed two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to come all the way back and force extra innings. After Jensen Lewis kept the Grizzlies off the scoreboard in the top half of the 10th, Reno finished it in the home half. Tyler Kuhn led-off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brett Tomko. After A.J. Pollock was intentionally walked, Bortnick roped a single into left field, chasing home Kuhn with the game winner.

The victory, coupled with a loss by second-place Colorado Springs, trims Reno’s magic number down to five with nine games remaining in the regular season.

Lewis (5-2) earned the win out of the bullpen, allowing just an unearned run in 2.0 innings of work. Starter Charles Brewer surrendered six runs in 6.1 frames, and Sam Demel worked 1.2 scoreless innings.

Dan Runzler (0-2), the sixth Grizzlies pitcher of the night, took the loss after surrendering the game-winner in the 10th.

At the dish for Reno, Bortnick, Kuhn, Cole Gillespie, Taylor Harbin and Konrad Schmidt recorded two hits apiece. Bortnick and Schmidt drove in two runs each.

The series comes to a close with a Sunday matinee at Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (6-4, 5.78 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while RHP Yusmeiro Petit (6-6, 3.48 ERA) counters for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT, and children will receive an Aces lunch box, while supplies last.

Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
