Choice, Cowboys Beat Vikings

POSTED: 11:39 pm PDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Tashard Choice helped his chances of securing a roster spot by scoring a touchdown to lead the Dallas Cowboys over the Minnesota Vikings, 16-10, in the preseason finale for both teams at Texas Stadium.

Richard Bartel was 28-of-41 for 233 yards for the Cowboys, who finished the preseason at 2-2.

Maurice Hicks scored the sole touchdown for the Vikings, who head into the regular season with a 1-3 preseason mark.

The Cowboys took a 10-0 lead into the second quarter courtesy of a 23-yard field goal by Nick Folk and a 11-yard TD run by Choice, and they led the rest of the way.

Dallas stars like Tony Romo and Terrell Owens did not play, in addition to Adam Jones. The cornerback was reinstated earlier in the day by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Jones, then with Tennessee, was suspended for the entire 2007 season by Goodell for violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy. Jones had numerous run-ins with the law in just two NFL seasons, including an alleged involvement in a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club during the NBA's All-Star weekend in February 2007. That incident left an employee of the club paralyzed from the waist down.

The Vikings also sat out most of their starters, including running back Adrian Peterson.

Minnesota will open its season on Monday, Sept. 8th at Green Bay, while the Cowboys begin their campaign a day earlier at the Cleveland Browns.

The Vikings still own a 5-4-1 advantage in their all-time preseason series with Dallas.
