Seattle Closes Preseason With Win Over Oakland

POSTED: 10:37 pm PDT August 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Seneca Wallace was 21-of-30 for 255 yards and T.J. Duckett had 11 carries for 71 yards and scored two touchdowns, as the Seattle Seahawks edged the Oakland Raiders, 23-16, in the final preseason tuneup for both squads.

Brandon Coutu hit a pair of field goals and drained both extra points, while Olindo Mare nailed his only field goal attempt for the Seahawks (3-1), who open their season on September 7 at Buffalo.

Andrew Walter was 16-of-24 passing for 162 yards and Marques Tuiasosopo hit 2- of-3 passes for 32 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders (1-3), who open their season on September 8 at home against the AFC West rival Broncos.

Darren McFadden had four carries for 50 yards and Marcel Reece had a 25-yard touchdown catch. Sebastian Janikowski, who had missed all preseason games to date, hit three of his four field goal attempts with a long of 50 yards in defeat.

Duckett broke a 24-yard run to give Seattle an early 7-0 lead. Mare added a 34-yard field goal and the Seahawks held a 10-0 cushion after 15 minutes of football.

Coutu made it 13-0 with a 28-yard field goal just over five minutes into the second quarter.

Janikowski hit a pair of field goals, a 40- and 50-yarder, to pull the Raiders within 13-6 as the first half came to a close.

Coutu and Janikowski traded field goals in the third quarter, and Seattle was up 16-9 heading into the final frame.

Duckett's one-yard touchdown run gave Seattle a 23-9 lead with 9:35 to go in the game.

Tuiasosopo hit Reece on a 25-yard touchdown pass to pull the Raiders within 23-16 just past the two-minute warning.

Seattle's problems have largely been on offense, where quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (back), receivers Bobby Engram (shoulder) and Deion Branch (knee), center Chris Spencer (back) and left tackle Sean Locklear (knee) have all been on the shelf. Pro Bowl linebacker Lofa Tatupu (knee bruise) was forced to leave the team's most recent preseason game as well.

Oakland's biggest injury problems cropped up in last week's preseason loss against the Cardinals, when potential starting wideout Drew Carter (knee) and fullback Oren O'Neal (knee) were both lost for the season. Both players sustained left knee injuries within a five-play span

Hasselbeck is expected back for the Seahawks' regular season opener, but Engram and Branch are unlikely to be in uniform.
