Lelie, Norris, Ramsey Among 49ers Cuts

POSTED: 1:19 pm PDT August 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Wide receiver Ashley Lelie, fullback Moran Norris, and defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey were among the notables released by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, as Mike Nolan's club reduced its roster to the 53-player maximum.

Lelie's career, which peaked with a 1,000-yard season as a member of the Broncos in 2004, reached a new low with Saturday's announcement. The former first-round pick out of Hawaii had just 10 catches for 115 yards in his lone season with the 49ers last year, and missed most of the preseason with a torn calf.

Norris played in 30 games as a member of the 49ers in 2006-2007, including all 16 last season, but saw his role reduced when head coach Mike Martz brought his multi-receiver offense to the Bay Area.

Ramsey, who played in 15 games as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006-2007, concludes a short stay in San Francisco. Ramsey was claimed off waivers by the 49ers on June 17th, but could not impress the coaching staff enough to stick.

Also waived by San Francisco were running back Thomas Clayton, wide receiver Cam Colvin, cornerback Markus Curry, defensive tackle Walter Curry, guard Brian de la Puente, defensive tackle Atiyyah Ellison, tight end J.J. Finley, linebacker Larry Grant, linebacker Dennis Haley, defensive end Louis Holmes, wide receiver Robert Ortiz, safety D.J. Parker, tackle Chris Patrick, wide receiver Jerard Rabb, tackle Alan Reuber, punter Ricky Schmitt, tackle Joe Toledo and wide receiver Dominique Zeigler.

Notables among that group include Clayton, a sixth-round Draft choice in 2007, Ellison, a former third-round Draft choice of the Carolina Panthers; and Toledo, a former fourth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins.

In other moves, the Niners moved guard Ramiro Pruneda to the practice squad as part of the NFL's international practice squad program, and placed linebacker Jay Moore on season-ending injured reserve with a biceps injury suffered in the preseason finale against San Diego.

The 49ers will begin the regular season on Sept. 7, when they host the Arizona Cardinals.
