Veterans Gilmore, Tripplett Among Seahawks' Cuts

POSTED: 6:41 pm PDT August 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Wide receiver Bryan Gilmore and defensive tackle Larry Tripplett were among the 18 players released by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, as the team reduced its roster to the 53-player maximum.

The veteran wideout Gilmore was attempting to catch on with his fourth organization, after previously spending time with the Cardinals (2000-2003), Dolphins (2004-2005), and 49ers (2006-2007). But the former Arizona starter did not make much of an impression in the 2008 preseason, hauling in just two passes for 24 yards.

Tripplett, a 16-game starter with the Bills in each of the past two seasons, was expected to help solidify the defensive tackle position for the Seahawks. But the former second-round Draft pick was bothered by a knee problem throughout training camp, hastening his release.

Joining that duo on the team's list of cuts were defensive back Jamar Adams, quarterback Dalton Bell, defensive tackle Kevin Brown, wide receiver Michael Bumpus, center Ben Claxton, defensive back Marquis Floyd, punter Reggie Hodges, defensive back Kelin Johnson, center Nick Jones, fullback David Kirtman, guard Pat Murray, tight end Joe Newton, linebacker Dallas Sartz, wide receiver Trent Shelton, defensive end Nu'u Tafisi, and tackle Kyle Williams.

Notables among that group include Kirtman, a former fifth-round pick who appeared in six games for Seattle a year ago.

In two other moves, the Hawks placed wide receiver Ben Obomanu and defensive tackle Chris Cooper on season-ending injured reserve

The Seahawks will open the regular season on Sept. 7, when they travel to play the Buffalo Bills.
