Yoshiâs Oakland began life in 1973 as a small, 25-seat sushi restaurant in North Berkeley. Success led to a move to Oakland, where the decision to introduce live jazz music to the venue soon saw the reputation of Yoshiâs Oakland soar. The final move happened in 1997 when the Port of Oakland invited Yoshiâs Oakland to set up shop in Jack London Square in the hope that the presence of such an internationally renowned venue would trigger a new lease of life in the area.
Any of the hassle associated with relocating was soon forgotten, as the new and improved Yoshiâs Oakland soon launched as a 330-seat jazz club / sushi restaurant boasting the finest in state-of-the-art sound technology.
Ten years on, the venue is going from strength to strength. The Yoshiâs schedule is a colorful array of the worldâs finest musicians from a diverse range of genres; everything from jazz and blues, to soul and afro-cuban. This, when paired with the best in contemporary Japanese cuisine clearly continues to be a recipe for success for Yoshiâs Oakland.
