Steve Paulson

Meteorologist Steve Paulson keeps viewers up to date on morning weather conditions. A graduate of Campolindo High School in Moraga, Paulson knew early on that broadcasting would be his calling as he enrolled himself at Chico State University as a Communication Major with a Broadcasting Minor. For his first job in the television business, he credits not taking "no" for an answer and "timing" as two of the main reasons he got his start. "Right out of college, I thought I'd get a job in advertising or production and sent out resumes all over the West Coast," reflected Paulson. "When those opportunities didn't pan out right away, I marched myself down to KHSL, the local Chico television station and told the receptionist I wanted a job. I never dreamed of being in front of the camera, but when the News Director asked if I ever thought of doing weather, I told him, 'I can do that.'" Little did Paulson know at the time, but the station's current weatherman had turned in his resignation just an hour before he walked in the door, and the rest as they say is history.

Since that fortuitous day, Paulson's career in television has taken off. From Chico, he moved to Santa Rosa and KFTY-TV 50. Then it was off to San Jose where he did weather at KICU, (which years later would become KTVU's sister-station, Action 36 Cable 6,) a job he held for seven years. While in the South Bay, Paulson became the San Jose Sharks pregame broadcast host for the NHL team and had one of the great thrills of his early career was when he interviewed hockey star, Wayne Gretzky. "It was the most nervous I've ever been," said Paulson. "But Wayne, as his nickname suggests, was great and he put me totally at ease." His next big break came when he was hired to do weekend weather at KPIX in San Francisco. Soon, it was off to WBBM-TV in Chicago with a stop at KMGH in Denver before he returned home to the Bay Area. Now at KTVU Paulson is an expert on Bay Area weather and the many microclimates we have here. "I'm so happy to be doing weather in the most beautiful region in the world, and it's my hometown," said Paulson.

Residing in the East Bay, Paulson is an avid sports enthusiast and he enjoys wine tasting, watching current and classic movies, and exploring the Bay Area with his family.
