Wynn Construction Update; Stratosphere Opens New Ride
Amazing Johnathan Moves
Rick Garman, Vegas4Visitors.com
Updated: 10:07 a.m. EST November 17, 2003 Construction is at a fever pitch on the upcoming Wynn Las Vegas, the $2 billion hotel from casino magnate Steve Wynn. The main hotel tower, a graceful single curve facing the Strip, is growing taller, heading toward the final 50 or so stories that will make it the tallest occupied room tower in Las Vegas. The bottom floors of the tower have been faced with a reflective, coppery-bronze material that should make it gleam in the Las Vegas sun. When complete, it will have more than 2,700 rooms, over 100,000 square feet of casino space, 18 restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, a 15-story, manmade mountain along the Strip hiding a manmade lake and waterfall on the other side, and much more. It is expected to open in the spring of 2005. There is a page on Vegas4Visitors.com that we update periodically with photos of the construction.
Halloween was the appropriate day chosen by executives at the Stratosphere to open the ridiculously scary Project X-Sky, the new thrill ride atop the 107-story tower. The ride launches people in an open car up a ramp that then tilts and falls as if the car will plunge off the side of the building. Go anywhere near the place and you'll hear the screams, even from 100 stories below. The ride is now open. It costs about $8 for the privilege of getting the heck scared out of you.
The Las Vegas Leisure Guide has launched an online page full of coupons for various Las Vegas attractions and more. Coupons will change often, but as of this writing you can get $3 off Legends in Concert at Imperial Palace, $4 off admission to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, and 10 percent off your bill at the Harley Davidson Cafe, among other goodies. You can visit the page by clicking here.
The Amazing Johnathan has announced that he will return to The Golden Nugget after a year at the Flamingo on the Strip. The edgy comic-magician and the Strip hotel have not gotten along very well, with a war of words breaking out over the last few weeks. Johnathan's last show at the Flamingo will be Dec. 14, and then he will take over the showroom at the Nugget on Jan. 13, 2004.
