Services
DaVita offers dialysis modality choices so patients and their physicians can decide the care plan that best fits their health and lifestyle needs today, and provides a seamless transition if their needs change tomorrow.
Peritoneal Dialysis
Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) differs from hemodialysis because the blood is filtered and cleaned within the body. With PD, the patient's abdomen is filled with dialysis solution called dialysate, which helps remove wastes and extra fluid from the blood. During the process known as an exchange, the solution with the waste is drained from the abdomen and then filled with fresh dialysate. Patients report having more time for themselves, their families, work and other activities. And, that it gives them a sense of control and responsibility for their own care.
Home Hemodialysis
Home Hemodialysis (HHD) is hemodialysis that you can perform at home. It is typically performed five or six times per week for about two and a half hours each time. Because of the more frequent treatments, your body builds up less waste and excess fluid resulting in better clinical management. Also, since HHD is a home therapy, you can perform the treatments on your own schedule.
In-Center Self Care
Many patients think that dialysis is a medical procedure best left to health care professionals. However, studies have shown that if you take a more active role in your treatment, you will get more benefits from it. In-center self care is the same as in-center hemodialysis, only you get to be an active participant in your dialysis care by performing some or all of the tasks.
In-Center Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis is the process where blood is removed from the body, filtered and cleaned of waste products through an artificial kidney or dialyzer, and then returned to the body. To perform hemodialysis, an access is created in the body to remove blood, clean it, and return it back to the body. With in-center hemodialysis, you will dialyze three to five hours per treatment.
