Chicago Continues Home Prowess With Narrow Win Over Monarchs

Posted: 7:54 pm PDT June 30, 2009

(Sports Network) - Jia Perkins scored eight of her 17 points in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, as Chicago won its fifth straight home game with a slim 74-72 decision over Sacramento.

Sylvia Fowles contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Sky, who are three games over .500 (6-3) for the first time in franchise history. Candice Dupree chipped in with 16 points for the victors.

Nicole Powell led the Monarchs with 21 points and eight rebounds but it wasn't enough as the club fell to 1-8.

Trailing 67-62 with roughly 3 1/2 minutes left in the game, the Sky embarked on a game-altering 11-0 run, with Dupree starting the rally with a pair of free throws and a jumper.

Perkins scored the next seven points, and Sacramento missed seven of its final eight attempts from the field to fall just short of the victory.
