Report: NHL To Investigate Blackhawks' Qualifying Offers

Posted: 9:37 pm PDT July 3, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly under investigation by the NHL for failing to tender qualifying offers to several restricted free agents by the league's set deadline.

According to TSN Canada, the qualifying offers sent to several players, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, did not receive the offers by the June 29 deadline.

The team contends that the problem occurred because of the Canadian national holiday on July 1.

If the league rules that the offers were filed incorrectly, the players involved would then become unrestricted free agents.
