A's Sign Minor League Pitcher

POSTED: 4:43 pm PST November 1, 2004

The Oakland Athletics agreed to terms on a one-year contract Monday with right-hander Seth Etherton.

Etherton spent last season in the Cincinnati farm system, going 9-7 with a 3.07 ERA in 26 starts at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville.

Etherton, 28, was originally a first round draft pick by Anaheim in 1998 and made his major league debut with the Angels in 2000. He posted a 5-1 record and a 5.52 ERA in 11 starts in 2000 and was traded to Cincinnati following the season.

Etherton did not pitch in 2001 and was limited to 10 rehab starts in 2002 after having arthroscopic surgery to repair bone spurs and a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

He returned to the majors in 2003 with Cincinnati and was 2-4 with a 6.90 ERA in seven starts. Etherton is 7-5 with a 5.98 ERA in 18 career starting assignments.
