A father and son find a frozen body in a pond while ice-fishing, and the team comes in to investigate the frigid crime scene. When Booth recognizes the man as a rival hockey player he had a fight with on the rink during a recent game, Booth becomes a main suspect in the investigation. FBI Agent Payton Perotta (guest star Marisa Coughlan) is brought in to assist Brennan with the investigation in Booth's place, and as the team analyzes the situation, they find a way to get Booth back in the game to aid in the investigation.
