Mark Tamayo
Mark Tamayo joined the KTVU Channel 2 News team as the Weekend Meteorologist in August 2008.His first on-camera position was in 1999 as KVIQ in Eureka, California as the morning and noon weather anchor. From there Tamayo went to KSBW in Salinas, California as the weekend and fill-in weather reporter.In January of 2002, Tamayo moved to KRON where he served as a Meteorologist on the morning and weekend newscasts and filed reports on a wide variety of environmental topics.Tamayo is one of a few meteorologists in the Bay Area who has earned his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Seal from the American Meteorological Society.Tamayo was born and raised in the Bay Area. Growing up, he had his first brush with a major storm in January of 1982. His family was rescued from his North Bay home in a canoe. Luckily, the water crested right below the entrance to their home.Mark earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a second Bachelor’s Degree in Science-Meteorology from San Francisco State University.Tamayo is a proud uncle to five nieces, and his interests include surfing, running, snowboarding, and enjoying the Bay Area’s great weather.
