Rita Williams

Rita Williams is one of KTVU Fox 2's all-star reporters who frequently generates exclusive stories unmatched by the competition.

A native of Shreveport, La., Williams earned a B.A. in Journalism at Texas Tech in 1969 and an M.A. in Political Science at George Washington University in 1974.

She worked as a writer and press secretary for Texas Congressman George Mahon for three years before joining Westinghouse Broadcasting in Washington as a trainee. She worked as a news reporter at KSAT-TV in Texas from 1975 to 1978. In 1978 she moved to the West Coast, working as news reporter for KQED-TV in San Francisco before she joined KTVU in 1980.

The recipient of many Emmy nominations, Williams won the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Best News Story of 1975 for her in-depth look at Mexican-American discrimination. She also holds an American Bar Association Award for the story of the legal battle of a mentally retarded child, as well as multiple Peninsula Press Club Awards.

In April 1999, she was honored for her great sensitivity and compassion, by Justice for Murder Victims.

Williams and her husband, Lindsay Bowen, live in the Bay Area.
