McCarran airport adding customs staff to cut lines

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Overseas travelers flying into Las Vegas can expect shorter lines when the airport adds new customs agents.

Airport officials and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced this week they would increase the staff to keep pace with the growth of international tourism, especially in the new Terminal 3.

Rep. Dina Titus has said the airport will get 10 new agents, on top of the 40 it already has.

Rosemary Vassiliadis of the Clark County Department of Aviation says the airport has seen international passenger traffic climb 41 percent in the past four years. She says 190 nonstop international flights come into the airport each week from 20 foreign cities.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is trying to increase international tourism, which is more lucrative than domestic tourism.
