Local business owner invited to national retail summit

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. -- The Nevada Unique Store opened in Gardnerville a year ago and just four months later, a restaurant was added.

Owner Larry Rice said the eatery-retail store holds its own, for now. "Just the general public at large that comes in here, the support is overwhelming."

With the help of small business owners from across the nation, Rice hopes to keep his doors open long-term.

The National Retail Advocates summit in Washington D.C. kicks off later this month and 150 small business owners have been invited, and Rice is one of them.

The food junkie has been in the catering business for twenty years and said owning his first restaurant is a whole new ball game. "Its a lot more complicated. If you are going to be successful it takes having interaction with your peers and being able to meet them on this kind of a level is something I would never be able to do otherwise."

Rice said most products sold from his store come from the local area and he hopes the summit helps him continue this philosophy going forward.
