Parmentier, Erakovic Ousted At Forest Hills

Forest Hills, NY (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier and second-seeded Marina Erakovic of New Zealand were first-round upset victims Wednesday at the $74,800 Forest Hills Tennis Classic, a final U.S. Open tune-up.

Chinese Shuai Peng dismissed Parmentier in easy 6-3, 6-2 fashion, while American crowd favorite Jamea Jackson toppled Erakovic 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 on the hardcourts at The West Side Tennis Club -- the former home of the U.S. Open.

Fourth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro avoided the upset bug by holding off Swiss Timea Bacsinszky 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

One other Day-2 result saw Czech Lucie Safarova edge out Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova 6-7 (11-13), 6-3, 6-3.

The quarterfinals will pit third-seeded Czech Iveta Benesova against Russian Ekaterina Makarova, Suarez Navarro versus German Martina Muller, Peng against Russian Vera Dushevina and Safarova versus Jackson.

This week's champion will collect $22,000.
