POSTED: 2:49 pm PDT August 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - Third-seeded Czech Iveta Benesova and fourth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro were a pair of quarterfinal winners Thursday at the $74,800 Forest Hills Tennis Classic, a final U.S. Open tune-up.

Benesova overcame Russian Ekaterina Makarova 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Suarez Navarro subdued German Martina Muller 6-2, 6-0 on the hardcourts at The West Side Tennis Club -- the former home of the U.S. Open.

In other Day-3 action, Lucie Safarova fought off American Jamea Jackson 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 to setup a semifinal clash with her fellow Czech Benesova, while Chinese Shuai Peng got past Russian Vera Dushevina 6-4, 7-5 to setup a semifinal against the French Open quarterfinalist Suarez Navarro.

This week's champion will collect $22,000.
