Roddick, Hewitt Reach Fourth Round At Big W

Wimbledon, England -- (Sports Network) - Two-time runner-up Andy Roddick posted a third straight four-set victory as he reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for a fifth time on Saturday. Former champion Lleyton Hewitt also booked a spot in the round of 16 here.The sixth-seeded Roddick snuck past 26th-seeded Austrian lefthander Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3 on Day 6 at the All England Club. Roddick advanced in 2 hours, 53 minutes with the help of 33 aces and two service breaks. The dangerous Melzer fired 26 aces and also recorded a pair of breaks en route to the hard-fought defeat. The former U.S. Open champion Roddick is also a former world No. 1 and lost to Roger Federer in back-to-back Wimbledon finals in 2004 and 2005. Roddick's opponent in the fourth round will be big Czech Tomas Berdych. An unseeded Hewitt handled German Philipp Petzschner 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. The former world No. 1 Hewitt is a two-time major champion, including a Wimbledon championship in 2002. Up next for Hewitt will be tough Czech Radek Stepanek. A trio of top-16 seeds exited the draw on Saturday, as 24th-seeded German Tommy Haas outlasted No. 11 Croat Marin Cilic 7-5, 7-5, 1-6, 6-7 (3-7), 10-8 in a suspended match from Friday, a No. 20 Berdych bounced No. 12 Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 and a No. 23 Stepanek edged out No. 16 Spaniard David Ferrer 7-5, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4 in the third round. Meanwhile, 19th-seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka overcame surprising American qualifier Jesse Levine 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 and 29th-seeded Russian Igor Andreev snuck past Italian Andreas Seppi 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5). Andreev will face the former world No. 2 Haas in the next round.
