Czech Pipeline Links Russian Gas to Europe

The Czech unit of German energy giant, RWE, has opened a pipeline that will bring Russian gas from northern to southern Germany through the Czech Republic. The move is set to be a boost to energy security in the region - in line with European Union Strategy. Price disputes between Ukraine and Russia have in the past disrupted supplies, including a row in 2009 that stopped gas flowing to many countries in central and southeastern Europe during freezing temperatures.
