President Obama heads back to the Sunshine State on this Tuesday, using a familiar formula of one official speech and a series of fundraising events to push ahead his re-election efforts in a key swing state.
The last time the President was in Florida, he delivered a scorching attack on Republicans in a speech at the University of Miami over the issue of high energy prices - so we'll see if this speech at Florida Atlantic University registers some more broadsides on the GOP.
In that February speech, Mr. Obama mocked the Republican mantra of "drill, drill, drill," the first in a series of sharp attacks on the GOP over energy issues.
"Step one is to drill and step two is to drill," the President said to laughter from the crowd. "And then step three is to keep drilling."
"Well, the American people aren’t stupid. They know that’s not a plan, especially since we’re already drilling. That’s a bumper sticker. It’s not a strategy to solve our energy challenge," Mr. Obama added.
Recent polling in Florida has shown an uptick for Democrats and the President, with a Quinnipiac University poll in late March giving the President a seven point advantage over Mitt Romney.
Four years ago, Mr. Obama won Florida by just over 200,000 votes, mainly because of his very strong showing in South Florida - where he again is visiting today.
If you dig into the numbers from 2008, you will see that the President's victory margin in Florida stood up because of how well he performed in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade - the three counties along the Palm Beach-Fort Lauderdale-Miami coast.
Mr. Obama won those three counties by 500,000 votes - and to win again, he'll need to turn out those supporters in November.
It's obviously no mistake that South Florida will see the President again today.
