Silver Stars Stay Alive With Wild Game 2 Win Over Sparks

POSTED: 3:12 pm PDT September 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Sophia Young hit an improbable turnaround bank shot as time expired to cap a wild finish, as the San Antonio Silver Stars pulled out a dramatic 67-66 win over the Los Angeles Sparks in Game 2 of the best-of-three Western Conference finals series at AT&T Center.

Young led the way for the Silver Stars throughout with a game-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Becky Hammon hit two clutch three-pointers down the stretch, finishing with four triples overall and 19 points to help force Game 3, Sunday at AT&T Center.

Candace Parker had 19 points and 17 rebounds while Lisa Leslie collected 17 points and 12 boards. DeLisha Milton-Jones chipped in with 14 points and hit several key shots in the waning moments for the Sparks, who got 22 points from Leslie in an 85-70 series-opening victory over the Silver Stars.

San Antonio held a slim 36-33 advantage at halftime and jumped out to a 12- point lead in the third, but the Sparks cut into the lead entering the final quarter, where they opened on a 14-2 run to take a 60-57 lead with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.

Hammon nailed a three-pointer just under a minute later to tie the game before buckets by Parker and Milton-Jones made it 64-60 with 1:33 left to play. Hammon drilled another triple with under a minute to go for a 64-63 game. Milton-Jones was called for a shooting foul on Young with 11 seconds to play and Young sank both shots from the line for a 65-64 edge but Milton-Jones came back to score a layup with 1.3 seconds on the clock, seemingly to clinch the series for LA. However, 1.3 seconds proved too long, giving Young time to take the inbounds pass and nail the game-winner.
